How
Emergency Response Systems Help:
When falls occur, the senior may not be able to get to a phone or
cry for help. Peace of mind can come when family members arrange
an emergency response alarm signal to be available to the senior.
This is a 24 hour self activated alarm system which will activate
a contact hierarchy to arrange for a person close by to check in.
When the persons designated for contact are not available, the service
contacts the local emergency rescue squad. Life Line (1-888-472-1424)
is one service available on a subscription basis. The New England
Emergency Response System is another service (800-888-0338).
Long-Distance Caregiving:
If you are like many family members who are living more
than an hour from a parent, you are most likely feeling stretched
by the responsibilities of long-distance caregiving. You are not
alone. The article "So Far Away: Twenty Questions for Long-Distance
Caregivers" will address many of the questions that you have
struggled with or are yet to put into words. You can find this article
here.
Many of our clients have found it helpful to rely on a case manager
to take care of needs, resource identification, and referrals. They
have found that this frees them up to have quality time when they
are visiting.
